Stop Kvetching

Wow, just posted a few blogs and then a long hiatus. It's just I was so busy for the past months that I haven't gotten to blog down what I have learned. Well, I better stop kvetching and move on.

Kvetch, yes, this is a word that I intended to keep. An officemate of mine taught me this word. It basically mean to complain. The word certainly has a nice way to put a spin on the word complain.

One thing to know today and stop kvetching.

Spread The Knowledge

The past tense of "spread" is not "spreaded". It is still "spread". This is a common error that people make in the English grammar. "Spread" is an irregular verb. Need not to change its form for its past tense equivalent.

The Other Guy of the American Revolution

Everybody knows Paul Revere. We know that he had a pretty big role in the American Revolution. He went out for a long midnight ride, warning everyone that "The British are coming!". He was a hero in the American history.

Did everyone know William Dawes as they know Paul Revere? I did not hear of his name until I read in the book "The Tipping Point" that he also went out to warn the Americans that "The British are coming". He is the one guy you have to know today.

How come history was not as generous to him as it did with Paul? Why didn't the Americans treat him with the same level of respect as with Paul? It seemed so because he didn't have the same effect on the people as Paul did. He did warn the people but they didn't believe him as much as the others did with Paul.

There are really those people who have a different effect on other people. They are those who are gifted that their personality sticks out from the rest. Many will believe and trust those unique people. And there are those who are not that lucky in terms of personality. I believe that having a pleasing personality is really a gift. But I also believe that if you are not given the same gift, you can work hard to develop it.

Here's to all of you William Dawes out there. May you find the power within to develop your skills and achieve greatness just like your friend Paul.

Word Count

One tool that I am curious about today is the word count online tool. What is this for? As what the name explicitly means, it is a tool online that counts the number of words in a block of text. You can use this tool to know how many words there are in an article that you have written. In case there is a requirement for your project on the number of words that you need to put to your article, you can use the tool to check.

I find this version of the online tool simple to use. You can paste the text and click on Count. The number of words will appear below the text. The address to the online tool is as follows:

Hello there. Thank you for visiting my blog.

I created this blog site to post what I have learned within the day. I hope that I could accompany what I have learn with a good picture. However I do not have a good camera phone that can produce sharp pictures. Anyway, this blog is not one of those 365 days project where you take artistic pictures. So excuse me if the picture that I will be posting would sometimes be blurry or bland.

Hopefully this blog can be useful in a way that you learn something new everyday. Maybe this blog will broaden your knowledge. My posts may be a new word that I learned for the day. Or a new concept that I was curious about. It may be an interesting scene that I would like to describe in a fun and informative manner.

I am not a writer just as you know but I am striving to use this blog as way for sharpen my writing skills and also my grammar. Maybe my first assignment would be to find another title for this post other than "Welcome" to make it more interesting. :)
